Delegate Herring was recognized as a Trailblazer because she is the first African American woman, and only the second African American, from Northern Virginia to be elected to the Virginia House of Delegates.

“I am honored to be recognized for this historical accomplishment.  It is hard to believe that in the nearly 400 year history of Virginia there has not been an African American woman from Northern Virginia elected to the state legislature.  I am humbled by the recognition and proud to serve my diverse community”, said Delegate Herring
