Virginia Education Association Endorses Our Campaign
August is roaring right along with heat waves and afternoon thunderstorms pelting our community. Many of us are taking those long-awaited family vacations, or we are tapping into that creative instinct with family “stay-cations”. In light of our economy, many are opting for BBQ and sprinklers instead of restaurants and water parks. One thing is for sure: it is really starting to heat up out there.
This week we’ve seen temperatures approach 100 degrees and we’ve felt the humidity in the air. It’s hot. And it's not just the weather -- the race toward the November 3rd Election Day is heating up as well.
My team and I have been knocking on doors this month and I’ve met with many of you on thecampaign trail. I hear your concerns and I share them.
One thing I hear about over and over again is the education budget. People want to know how the budget shortfalls will affect their children’s education.
Educating our children secures a better future for us all. We should first take a long hard look at government spending on institutional infrastructure before bringing the red pen to the classrooms.
We should strive to have smaller class sizes so that each child can receive adequate amounts of attention from instructors. Virginia should endeavor to raise teachers’ salaries to at least the national average. If we do so, we can stop forfeiting our best educators to North Carolina and Maryland.
I’ve been fighting for education all my life. As a product of public education, I recognize the importance of a sound education system to a community. That is why I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Virginia Education Association (VEA). The VEA fights every day for teachers, for students, and for parents, and I am thrilled to be among their list of endorsed legislators.
